Cotton Candy Cookies (Print version)

Soft pastel-swirled cookies with cotton candy flavor, perfect for parties and fun celebrations.

# What you need:

→ Dry Ingredients

01 - 2½ cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 teaspoon baking powder
03 - ½ teaspoon baking soda
04 - ½ teaspoon salt

→ Wet Ingredients

05 - ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
06 - 1 cup granulated sugar
07 - ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
08 - 2 large eggs
09 - 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
10 - ½ teaspoon cotton candy flavoring

→ Coloring and Garnish

11 - Pink and blue gel food coloring
12 - ½ cup cotton candy, for optional garnish

# Directions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly distributed. Set aside.
03 - In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
04 - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Blend in the vanilla extract and cotton candy flavoring until the mixture is smooth.
05 - Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a soft, cohesive dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
06 - Divide the dough evenly into two separate bowls. Add a few drops of pink gel food coloring to one portion and blue gel food coloring to the other. Fold and mix each until the color is uniform throughout.
07 - Pinch off a small amount of dough from each colored portion and gently press them together in your palms, rolling into a 1½-inch ball with a swirled marbled effect. Arrange on the prepared baking sheets, spacing each ball about 2 inches apart.
08 - Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are just set while the centers remain soft. Rotate the baking sheets halfway through for even baking.
09 - Allow the cookies to rest on the baking sheets for 5 minutes to firm up, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
10 - Just before serving, top each cooled cookie with a small tuft of cotton candy for a whimsical, decorative finish. Serve immediately, as the cotton candy dissolves quickly.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • The marble swirl effect is easier than it looks and makes every single cookie feel like a tiny edible art piece.
  • Kids lose their minds over these, and honestly most adults do too once they taste that subtle cotton candy flavor baked into something warm and soft.
02 -
  • Gel food coloring is the only way to achieve vibrant pastels without turning your dough into a sticky, wet disaster that refuses to hold its shape.
  • If you want cleaner, lighter colors in the final cookie, swap standard vanilla extract for clear vanilla so the amber tint does not muddy your pinks and blues.
03 -
  • Use a cookie scoop to portion each color before swirling so every cookie is roughly the same size and bakes evenly across the whole tray.
  • The cotton candy flavoring intensifies slightly as the cookies cool, so resist the urge to add extra based on how the raw dough tastes.
