Red White And Blue Ice (Print version)

Layer blueberries, coconut and strawberries in trays to freeze colorful red, white, and blue cubes for summer beverages.

# What you need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 1/2 cup hulled and chopped strawberries
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# Directions:

01 - Rinse blueberries and strawberries thoroughly. Hull and chop strawberries. Portion coconut meat or measure shredded coconut.
02 - Fill one-third of each ice cube compartment with blueberries. Pour enough blueberry juice to just cover the berries. Place tray in freezer for approximately 1 hour until the layer is firm.
03 - Add a layer of coconut meat or a light sprinkle of shredded coconut atop the solid blue base. Pour coconut water until compartments are two-thirds full. Freeze for an additional hour until firm.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries. Carefully pour in strawberry juice or cranberry juice to fill each cube to the top. Freeze thoroughly for about 2 more hours until fully solid.
05 - Once completely frozen, release cubes from tray. Add to lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails for a festive presentation.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • Show-stopper ice cubes secretly take almost no effort and make any drink look instantly party-ready.
  • They're customizable for any celebration and a sure conversation starter, plus everyone—kids and adults—loves them.
02 -
  • If you rush the freezing between layers, colors can bleed into each other and lose their 'striped' effect.
  • Letting the cubes sit a couple minutes before unmolding makes it much easier to get that satisfying pop.
03 -
  • Aim for even cutting and layering so the cubes release cleanly and look bright in drinks.
  • Chill your juice before pouring to help each tier freeze faster and sharper.
