Savory caramelized onion dip blended with herbs, great with crunchy potato chips for any gathering.

# What you need:

→ Dip Base

01 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
02 - 2 large yellow onions, finely diced
03 - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
04 - 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
05 - 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
06 - 1 cup sour cream
07 - 4 ounces (1/2 cup) cream cheese, softened
08 - 1/2 cup mayonnaise
09 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
10 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
11 - 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
12 - 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped

→ For Serving

13 - 1 large bag (10 ounces) sturdy potato chips

# Directions:

01 - Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions turn deep golden brown and caramelized, approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
02 - Combine sour cream, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl. Whisk until mixture is completely smooth and creamy.
03 - Gently fold cooled caramelized onions, chopped chives, and parsley into the cream base. Stir until all components are evenly distributed throughout the dip.
04 - Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and develop fully.
05 - Transfer chilled dip to an attractive serving bowl. Sprinkle additional fresh chives over the top as garnish. Accompany with sturdy potato chips for dipping.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • The deep savory flavor from properly caramelized onions makes this impossible to stop eating
  • Makes enough for a crowd but keeps beautifully in the fridge for midnight snacks
02 -
  • Rushing the caramelization process is the biggest mistake, so give those onions the full 30 minutes to develop proper flavor
  • The dip really needs that chilling time for flavors to meld, so make it at least a few hours before your event
03 -
  • Use a wide skillet instead of a small one so the onions brown evenly rather than steam
  • Finely dice the onions so they distribute evenly throughout every bite
