# Expert advice:

01 -
  • You probably have every single spice in your cabinet right now, so no special grocery trip needed
  • Mixing your own means you control exactly how much salt and heat goes into your family food
  • This costs about one third of those tiny store packets and tastes infinitely better
02 -
  • The very first time I made this I accidentally used garlic salt instead of garlic powder and it was essentially inedible
  • Smoked paprika is absolutely worth buying specifically for this recipe, it changes the entire flavor profile
03 -
  • Toast your cumin seeds in a dry pan for 2 minutes before grinding if you want an even deeper, more authentic flavor
  • Write the date on your jar so you know exactly when it is time to mix up a fresh batch
